Dr
Saraswathy Mohan, now Saraswathy Sooraj, the first
Miss Kerala (1996) when, way back in 1996, she wore
the crown at Thiruvananthapuram, at a beauty cum brains pageant, held
under the auspices of the World Malayalam Conference. At New Jersey,
she was the first runner up as Miss Kerala Worldwide.
Saraswathy had never visited a beauty parlour before
she contested. Ayurvedic beauty packs, home-made, did the trick. Even
soap was taboo. Powdered green gram was relied on in the household to
cleanse all that grime.
Yet glamour is far from her make-up. Saraswathy was
the odd-girl-out then. To media queries on what her ambition was, she
had said, " To be an ayurvedic doctor like my grandfather."
Right enough, she achieved her ambition, and become one of the leading
ayurvedic Doctor and well known with her research work in beauty therapy
in Indian systems of medicine.
Her husband, professor Dr Sooraj, is a post graduate in the Ayurvedic
branch of medicine. After the wedding, the Soorajs shifted to the national
capital to take charge of the new branch of Sree Sankara Ayurveda Vaidyasala,
that her grandfather, Dr.M.S. Chandrashekharan Nair started decades
ago. There Dr Saraswathy together with her busy schedule of an ayurvedic
practitioner started her research on ayurvedic way of beauty up-gradation
and is continue the good-work.
In 2005 Dr Saraswathy changed her platform to Kerala
again and continued her practice and research with all facility available
in Sree Sankara Ayurveda Group in Changanacherry.
The great granddaughter of social reformer, Mannath
Padmanabhan, Saraswathy is all excited about her work and passing the
information about her own way of beauty, health and vitality to the
common people .
